Decorating Tips

When it comes to decorating , I have lots of great ideas and am very enthusiastic about getting my ideas across. In the past before I was with my current partner, I was more involved with the actual decorating and got stuck in and got my hands dirty. Or covered in paint in this case....... and not just my hands, my hair, my clothes, the walls, obviously, but also the floor! Yes, as much as I wanted to do the work I was always very messy and would get as much paint on me as I did on the actual areas that required decorating!! I would watch DIY programmes (that were all the rage back then like Changing Rooms) and look through magazines for inspiration and decorating tips, but alas the end result was ok but not as polished as I would have liked. Luckily, my ex was understandable and had a sense of humour and didn't complain too much about the mess I made and the areas where bits of paint went on the celing or skirting *ahem*

My current OH will not allow me to help with the decorating. Hmmmmm I cannot possibly understand why!! I guess it stems back to when I owned my own business, a cafe, and we redecorated it one weekend and he witnessed first hand my amazing *ahem* skills with a paint brush and roller!!! So unimpressed was he that when we had to paint our newly rennovated house five years ago, he called his parents into help instead of me!!! Still, on the plus side it saved me tie dying my clothes with flicks of magnolia paint.

To be honest, my OH is a bit of a perfectionist and when he sets his mind to under take a decorating task he goes all out and does it all properly - using masking tape when he is cutting in, and taking his time to paint neatly in smooth up and down strokes of the brush and not willy nilly as I tend to do!! And there is rarely any paint splattered on any surfaces, including himself.

Since moving to our new house we - well ok he - have now managed to re-decorate the front porch, the guest room and the boys bedroom, the latter of which still requires some finishing touches which I am sure will be got around too one day.

I would love to be as neat and tidy as he is. I think I would need some help in finding out how I would go about decorating and to be better at it. A friend did recommend a really useful  DIY e-book which is packed full of handy tips like how to hang wallpaper, remove paint from surfaces and lots of other clever DIY tasks.

I do have lots of ideas on what I want for the remaining rooms as does my OH, whether we will agree with one another is another matter !! Still, at least being the clumsy mumsy decorating woman I am, I know that I will just be the brains in the operation making pinterest boards on what I would like the other rooms in the house to look like, while he will be the braun doing the actual hard work oh and making cups of coffee to keep him going! Not all bad then!

So my own top decorating tip?
If you aren't very good at it, let someone who is do the hard work and you just sit back and enjoy the finished rooms lol

this is a guest post but the photos are my own as are the words
