The Gallery - Play

I adore watching my two boys play. Using their imaginations and putting on little voices (usually very high pitched and a tad squeaky!). Learning through play is the best way for them to develop and understand the world around them. When I listen in on their little role playing adventures it does make me smile when I recognise words and situations that I have said or they have seen take place at home or when we have been out and about, or what they have seen on television.

From knights, to doctors, to chefs, to builders, to pirates, to racing drivers; owning a farm, a garage, a cafe, a shop, a swimming pool, a camper van and so on - they act out so many different life scenarios, even if they don't always fully comprehend what actually goes on in those roles! eg. cooking salad in the oven and eating lemons whole (mmmmm I tell them as I sample their gastronomic delights!)

I envy them that they have such abandonment and such innocence when it comes to playing. At the moment it is all about them and mummy and daddy, family members and pets, and they name the little toy people after family member too. When they voice the little toy people they always have mummy (ie. me), daddy, Jenson, Burton, Shadow the dog etc.!

Playtime is the most fun time!

There is no violence involved or making objects into guns or swords - just simple child like playing with no real world influences....yet! I know this will all change as they grow older, but for now I just love this playtime they enjoy together. Heck, I enjoy playing with them too - being a Mummy is a brilliant excuse to play with toys again!

  1. Love this post, great gallery! Your boys sound just like mine (although I have to admit guns and swords usually are involved with mine!). It is great to see and hear them playing - and joining with them is the best part too -I'm getting pretty good at pretend sword fighting :) xx

  12. You are very lucky to have boys so close in age, that play so beautifully together. I am beginning to regret not having another sooner, and I hope that if I ever do get around to it that The Boy will adore his sibling as much as Burton does.
