This month has been an expensive one. What with Britmumslive at the end of June, Burton's birthday and the OH's car needing a major new part after breaking down a few weeks ago, this month has been tight financially until pay day next week. This is the reason why when we saw that we were in for some sunny and hot weather, we bought the paddling pool. OH and I decided that it was a worthy investment because it would get lots of use and would save us having to go anywhere to spend money and also reduce petrol costs.
I have felt a little guilty that for the past two weeks we have not been anywhere much. Asides from pre school for Burton, a trip to Granma and Grampy's and Tesco we have stayed at home. Then again, when you have your own garden, toys, a paddling pool, a trampoline and various outdoors toys (bats, balls, basket ball hoop etc...) there is not always the need to have to go elsewhere. Plus with the extreme temperatures we have had, it is nice to be able to cool off indoors and have lots of drinks on hand. The boys and I have had a lot of fun amusing ourselves at home and in the garden and the paddling pool has been used every day.
This week we have mostly done the following:
You dont have to spend much money to keep children busy and ensure they have lots of fun and fresh air and exercise. I think my two are happy doing anything as long as we do it together and they enjoy themselves.
You don't need to go too far or spend a fortune in this weather- with kids in that age group they are sometimes happy just to chill and play in the garden especially in great weather!! My 2 are 12 and 15 and I have just re invested in a new swingball again- this time the metal one as they can hit harder LOL We have also just put the pool up and they have already invited their mates round............just shows you they can have fun on a budget! :)
ReplyDeleteJensons bottom in the second from last collage is so cute! He looks so much like Burton in the swing ball photos too.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to see that you are enjoying your new home and making the most of the outside space. I've been banned from buying a paddling pool, so we'll be doing the opposite and will be spending too much in petrol going to the beach everyday :-) x
Nothing wrong with taking advantage of the garden! You certainly managed a whole host of fun activities for them. I really wish we had access to a garden! We have been doing so much driving recently and tomorrow I have said I am taking a break!!
ReplyDeletei love this, just using whats on the doorstep. isnt that what we all did as kids anyway! great shots x
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos Jenny, you look like you have a wonderful garden in your new home so I am sure the boys don't mind spending time there at all. X
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with these sentiments Jenny. It's not the money you spend but the fun you have. And some of the most fun and memorable summer days I remember from being a kid, involved the paddling pool and den making. Simple pleasures are the best ones I say. x
ReplyDeletelovely photos no need to go anywhere else when you have such great things to do right there :) x
ReplyDeleteSounds like you guys have been having some serious fun in the sun! I have serious pool envy... That is the DADDY of paddling pools you have there!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, you don't have to go out to have fun outdoors. We have a fairly big garden and spend a lot of time out there having fun with Amy. These are fabulous pics, especially the tree climbing one x
ReplyDeleteBy what you say and what I can see on the photos there is no need for you to wander too far from home. The boys look like they are having a fantastic time in the garden with their paddling pool and toys, and with refreshments a step away what more could they want. Thanks for sharing your outdoor fun with Country Kids.
ReplyDeleteWe have had lots of fun in our garden this last few weeks - I have really struggled with the heat so its great to be able to stay in in the hottest parts of the day, and like you say have plenty to drink on hand :) Looks like you have had great fun!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've had loads of great fun. Who needs to go out to have fun hey! The best fun is always had at home :-)
ReplyDeleteWe invested in a paddling pool the other week too (looks very similar to yours). H had such fun in it. We had a friend round to play waterfights and play in it and it was just the best thing for them both.
ReplyDeleteWhat great fun you have had on your own doorstep. As a child my best memories are of fun at home & never really about being away anywhere 'special'. Thanks for joining in with the Outdoor Play Party.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's not about the big adventurous trips out, it's making use of the facilities around us in a suitable way. I love what you guys get up to at home, so many lovely play choices.
