With Burton due to begin his new school life this September, I have made my list of things that I need to buy him. School uniform, new school shoes, a school bag, a lunchbox and a new coat . So far the only item of clothing I have bought for him is his school jumper, which I had to purchase form his new school before the term ended, and a book bag which was also another purchase from the school. While they have now been safely put away for the next few weeks, I now need to get on and get the other items before they sell out or I forget!
Luckily for me (and for Burton), I was asked a few weeks ago if I would like to review something from the Joules boys clothing ranges . I did not plan on getting a coat but when I saw the JNR Maybury boys hooded raincoat I just knew that it would be perfect for Burton. Colours which he likes and which suit him, 100% waterproof so ideal for those playtimes when it is raining and it haa been lined with microfleece which will be perfect for keeping him snug during those winter time playground breaks. Plus the coat has a zip and poppers to keep it fastened which will make it wind proof too - so there is no doubt it will keep my school boy warm ....... as long as he keeps it done up of course! And, importantly, it is machine washable!
The coat arrived and as soon as he saw it Burton could not wait to try it on despite it being sweltering hot and sunny outside! I took this as a good sign that he liked it! (yay!). In fact he was more than happy to pose for pictures for me - I could not believe it! He also noticed that there is a yellow hare on the coat "look mummy. Its big nut brown hare!" (from the book and TV animation series Guess How Much I Love You)
I ordered the age 6 size for Burton so that it will be plenty big enough in length and so it will fit over his school uniform, school jumper and all. I also hoped that by going a size bigger than I would normally it will last him his first year at least possibly the second one as well.
At £54.95 this is not a cheap coat and certainly a LOT more than I would normally spend on a jacket for Burton - heck it is more than I would spend on mysef. However, that works out at £22.50 per year which is about what I would spend on a new coat anyway in a single purchase although he does outgrow his coats by the following winter! Obviously, the quality and feel of the Joules jacket is superb and will see him through the winter months and in all weathers due to its excellent design features. The hood actually fits him for once, as more often than not I find this not the case with the coats I have bought for Burton in the past. There are also some big pockets with poppers on the front of the jacket, perfect for keeping stones, fir cones, twigs in and whatever else Burton finds in the playgound no doubt!
Also, of course, it looks really lovely on him..
I think Burton will start his new school year looking very smart indeed. I just hope he doesn't lose his new coat!!
*makes not to self to add name labels to my 'what to buy for school' list*
I worked on this post in collaboration with Joules and was gifted this item. All comments made about it are my own and honest. I will only allow my children to test items which I feel are suitable and age appropriate.
We bought Charles a winter coat from Joules last year. We had walked away from a £18 coat at BHS thinking it was too expensive(!!) then ended up in Joules spending £50 on one instead.
ReplyDeleteWe are big fans of Joules and see everything as an investment. Charles' coat will last him another 2 years then will go to Harry.
Burtons coat is really lovely. He looks so cosy and smart x
hank you Lauren I think he looks lovely and smart too. it is a lovely coat and fits him so well. i guess you do get what you pay for (even though i didnt if you see what i mean!) and as you say if he gets a couple of years out of it then it is a good investment and if not then there will always be a chance for Jenson to wear it.
ReplyDeleteGosh, that's a very smart coat - The Boy's is from Asda! In all honesty, that's more than I'd pay for a child's coat, especially for school, but it is clearly good quality.
