Jenson At 21 Months (Flashback Friday)

Dear Jenson,

You are twenty one and a half months old now, and already my thoughts are turning to your 2nd birthday and what theme choose and what kind of cake to make you. I cannot believe that you are now the same age that Burton was when you were born - it seems all a bit surreal sometimes that my baby boy is now a toddler who is walking, talking, singing and throwing mini tantrums!

How did you get to be so big? And not only that, but how fast has this happened?

You are a proper little boy and I know that a reason you are doing certain things so much sooner than Burton ever did is because you copy him and want to do whatever he does, even if you are too small or too young to do so. Mind you your brother is good at leading you astray and I often hear him egging you on with whispers of "go on Jenson before Mummy sees"!. Like sticking toilet roll down the toilet, hiding in the bath (unfilled) or jumping off and on the sofa!!!

You love being able to go swimming with Daddy and Burton and you can now swim wearing armbands. You are doing so well and we think you will soon be swimming solo like your big brother. You are good at kicking and catching a ball and you are at last, after months of trying to get you interested, playing with jigsaw puzzles.

You say so many more words than your brother ever did at 21 months (even 24!) and you are so cute the way you copy things we all say to you. I love how you say sorry, bubbles, yellow, I wont, I'm alright, beans, jam, and of course raa raa. Although your most spoken word, usually said in a shouty voice, is 'noooo!'

You are obsessed with that noisy little lion and you also like Peppa Pig too, but Raa Raa is your favourite and I think if there was a 24 hour Raa Raa channel I think it would be created by you for you! This is why you love wearing your self named 'raa ra ' hat everywhere we go!

Most of the time you are a funny and confident little boy who is very loving and completely gorgeous. However, beneath this lovable toddler exterior lurks a terrible two boy who makes appearances from time to time. The worst thing is that when I tell you off for something you hit me. You have been doing this for several months now, and despite time out on the naughty step and telling you off you still continue to hit me. I really hope this stops. Just like Burton you are also strong willed, maybe not quite as much as he is, but enough that it can drive your poor Mummy to despair at times! Like refusing to put your shoes on, taking your shoes and socks off on a freezing cold walk to the park, and then taking them off  again as quickly as I put them back on your feet ...... and repeat again several times on same walk!

You still wont sleep without me laying next to you. Anyone else can put you to bed no problem, but when I do, which is most of the time, I end up waiting for you to drop off before I sneak out back downstairs. My plan is that when we move at the weekend and you are able to return to your cot, this routine will stop as bedtime normality is resumed.

However, despite your hitting me, saying no a lot, refusing to eat meals and me having to spend soooo much of my time waiting for you to go to sleep at night, I do love you very much. You are such a mummy's boy.

Here are some of my favourite photos of you from your last month aged 20-21 months

lots of love, always

Mummy xxx

  1. Lovely post & photos. I love the one of him wearing the red wig lol. Toddlers are so strong-willed. They know what they want or don't want as often is the case lol. I hope he settles when you move to your new house x

  3. What a cutie...I can see him looking more like Jenson the older he gets. How cute is the photo of him playing Doctors? I couldn't help but chuckle at the story of him taking his shoes and socks off but I'm sure you didn't feel like laughing at the time! I love hearing about all the things he gets up to as he gets older xx

  4. SOO cute!! :) I can't believe he's 21 months old already...he sounds so lovely and love how Burton is his mentor. There is the exact same age gap between my niece and z and she is completely his mentor too. Z went through a hitting phase and telling him off just made him laugh so one day I just took him off my lap and put him on the floor and walked away and he got very upset by it and that kind of now works (not all the time) but I was surprised when thats what did the trick in the end. Gorgeous photos! :)
