Back in the summer of 1987, the town that I had moved to the year before, Great Torrington, had some special event taking place which for the life of me I am unable to remember now! Anyway, it must have been something extra special because the town had some very special guests. The late Caron Keating, Toyah Wilcox, a well known boxer (I can't recall which one though, I wasn't into boxing!) and Prince Edward!
His royal highness actually spoke to me - yes me! - because he probably thought he had a stalker! He started his tour of the town by walking through the square (aka high street) and my friends and I said "hello" to him and he acknowledged us and replied.
I then ran round to a local hotel and waited for him to walk past again, and as he walked past me a second time I smiled and said "hello" and he recognised me and made a comment about how he had just seen me! Well it was exciting to my 13 year old self anyway!
My parents owned a shop at the time which was a delicatessen and grocers and on this day Mum was hosting wine tasting. The lovely Caron Keating was outside
and she kindly agreed to have her photo taken with me
And tried on a paper hat for a photo too!
I then asked her if she would like to try some of the local wine that my Mum was giving out in our shop and she said yes! Here she is trying some with my Mum
I did get her autograph but I have no idea where it is now. She was so lovely and it was so tragic that her life was cut short by cancer in 2004.
I am linking this up to Flashback Friday where this weeks theme is Jubilee/Royal Celebrations
I used to love Caron Keating from the Blue Peter days. Really sad her life was cut short. Love your pics of the prince and of you just popping into one of the shots :)
ReplyDeleteGreat flashback! I was never really a Prince Edward fan as such but I think that was mainly as I preferred Fergie and Di,and that was probably because of their pretty outfits lol. I loved Caron Keating though!
ReplyDeleteI wasnt into Eddy either but hey its not every day a royal prince comes to town!! X
DeleteWhat a great memory and so many lovely pictures. Caron Keating was lovely, so sad. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat great pics of you and Caron Keating. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIs that you? It looks nothing like you. Caron Keating was indeed a lovely lady, very sad, I read her Mums autobiography and it was very moving. xx
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I met Princess Anne when I was about 7 or 8 but I don't really remember it, even though I gave her some flowers... All I remember about the day was going to the hairdressers for a proper french plait!!
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne, came to my school once!
ReplyDeleteFab photo's :-) and great memories. x
What fabulous photographs! I remember being so sad when Caron Keating lost her battle with cancer. She was such a kind soul.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Edward look like a mixture of William and Harry now?
