For the first time since he was born, Jenson had his first night away last night, at his grandma and grampy's house together with Burton. By all accounts he went to sleep no problem (hmmmph! I will remember this tonight when he is back here and wants me to lay on the floor while he drops off!), ate a massive breakfast (weetabix, 2 pieces of toast and a banana!) and his brother slept in until 8am!!
For the first time since Jenson was born, the OH and I had a night on our own! What a shocker! Now what do you think we would do with a rare night off from being mummy and daddy? So many things sprang to my mind
- A meal out with a couple of glasses of wine maybe?
- A trip to the cinema perhaps?
- A night in with a take away and some wine and a film possibly?
I mean the evening was our 'oyster' really!
Hmmmm well these were all ideas that I had thought about. Now what about my OH?
Now to be fair this night was not planned, as Jon's Mum only offered to have the boys Wednesday afternoon and she didn't ask because we hade made plans to do something. Therefore, it wasn't like we had anything special arranged to do. BUT even so, we had no children for the night.
Well let me tell you we did none of the above! None I tell you!!
My OH had 'one' thing on his mind that we should do, which with no children around would be easier and which we could do in our bedroom for the first time in about 19 months, and we did *ahem*.
But it did make me laugh (on the inside of course!), that I had all these thoughts of things we could do that didn't require a babysitter, and would give us a 'date night' I guess, something we never do and haven't done since Burton was about a year old. Yet my alpha male had only one thing/idea on his mind! (not that I am complaining I hasten to add, as he will probably read this, and I don't want him to take offence!)
AND I still cooked and had to wash up and because there was nothing on TV he suggested we watched Madagascar 2! A kids film I ask you!! Ha ha! Well, except he fell asleep before the end leaving me watching it while he snored away !!
Oh well I did get to sleep in this morning until 8am which hasn't happened for a very long time, and I have cracked on and got some housework done. So I am pleased because I don't get the chance to have a proper clean often, its normally just a whizz round in the evenings.
In less than a couple of hours I will be picking the boys up and all my cleaning efforts will soon be masked by toys, books and crumbs and food stained floor marks once again! Still it as been a novelty and a treat which could be a long time before it happens again.
Next time I get the opportunity I hope I get to have a meal out because it would be a chance to dress up and get out for the night, with no twitter or blogging either.......yikes!
I know from speaking to some ladies on twitter last night, that a night off from their children is extremely rare and it got me thinking,
if you had a night off, what would you do with it?
if you had a night off, what would you do with it?
I would watch a film and sleep... :-)
ReplyDeleteHow could it be? This is exactly what I am thinking about last night! My younger son is almost 12 months and I am dreaming about the night like this...
ReplyDeleteI would invite our friends (if they could leave theirs little ones :) and we would have a big noisy party :)
Though watching movie and sleeping 8 hours at a stretch also sounds good.
I would love to go out for a meal & then for a good old dance with my OH, but I am sure we would simply stay at home and watch TV and possibly partake in some *ahem*
ReplyDeleteOmg! This post made me chuckle! Well done the little boys in your family for being so good, but the older boy snoring in front of Madagascar is plain funny!
ReplyDeleteYou cheered me up after a tough day, thank you xxx
I would probably conk out on the couch!! We try to have date nights and Usually just go for a meal but every so often we might push the boat out and go to the cinema.
ReplyDeleteYou two are more adventures than Ben and I. I'd sleep, God would I sleep lol x
ReplyDeleteI think spending the time together is just as lovely as if you go out. I mean, of course I'd rather go out and have a meal cooked for me and no washing up but it's the time together that counts lol
