Foodelity : Delicious Dinner Party Food Delivered To Your Door (A Review)

Foodelity is a new online food delivery service which supplies only the finest raw ingredients and delicous recipes to your door to allow you to host the perfect dinner party for you and your guests. What makes Foodelity different to other on line food delivery suppliers is that the ingredients you are sent are the same as those used by many of the UK's best chefs. Foodelity uses farmers who care passionately about their food and focus on producing quality food instead of quantity.

The concept is very easy, just browse the foodelity website and decide what you would like to order from the selection of starters, mains, desserts, cheeses and wines available and you have your dinner party meals sorted! Alternatively, if you are not sure which meals from those lists to choose, you can order (set) complete meals from BBQ food to food for busy people with not much time, to summer Sunday lunch to a knock out gourmet ultimate dinner for 2.

I was sent the Ultimate Dinner for 2 meal (with an extra serving of cheese and biscuits which does not come with this complete meal - I was sent it as an extra). The box arrived and it was undamaged and when I opened it all the ingredients I required were well packaged and well insulated. Last Friday was a very hot and sunny day but all the ingredients, including steak, scallops, butter and chocolate, remained chilled and not melted in anyway. Also included in the box were photographic recipe cards with step by step instructions to guide you through the cooking  and preparation process. Plus there is no wastage because all the ingredients included are all that you need to make your meals with.

The methods were easy to follow and all the ingredients are clearly labelled and colour coded so you know if they are for the starter, main or dessert. I made the following meals:

The steak was absolutley delicious - one of the tastiest I have ever eaten, and the meat was beautiful. Generous sized steaks, rich deep red in colour and with a great flavour.  I have never eaten scallops before and this was an ideal opportunity to try them at last. I was impressed again by the size and quantity of scallops I was sent - and they were really nice too.

However, it was the chocolate orange fondants which were to die for! Even thinking of them now as I write this is making my mouth water again! I have to be honest I have never attempted to make these desserts before but have always watched with baited breath on cooking programmes like Master Chef when the contestents make them only for them not to be gooey and soft in the middle. Well, let me tell you with the recipe and ingredients sent to me by Foodelity I made a chocolate fondant to beat all those seen on Master Chef. It was perfect and chocolate oozed out of the centre when I put my spoon into the hot sponge and , even if I do say so myself, it tasted divine too!

The Ultimate Dinner for 2 is broken down into the following costs

Scallops - £7.45 per person
Steaks - £11.95 per person
Fondants - £4.45 per person

Therefore, had I purchased this myself is would have cost me £47.70

This is comparable to whenever my OH and I eat out on those rare occasions in the evening, it usually costs about £50 - £60 which does include a drink. There again we wouldn't nornally order scallops , in fact I rarely order a starter as I find I cannot mamage a pudding and I do like my puddings lol! The other difference of course is that I had to cook this meal for myself and my partner, which I enjoyed as I like cooking and especially enjoyed cooking wiht some new ingredients and having such good quality products with which to cook with.

Foodelity does feature some cheaper options for meals like starters from under £4, mains from less than £7 and desserts from £3.45 which I think is brilliant because you can have a less extravagant night in if you so wish. There is a vast array of deliciious meals on offer to suit all tastes from vegetarian, to fish to meat and you can also add wine and cheese to your order if you so wish.

I think Foodeltity is a brilliant concept. If you enjoy cooking and entertainng but do not like the hassle of shopping for the ingredients, and want to try some chef inspire recipes with top quality ingredients than this on line delivery service is perfect for you.

  9. I really like the idea of this, it strikes me as a great way to try cooking something for the first time, like you did with the scallops, and looks very tasty too.
