Snow, Ice And Shadows (Country Kids)

Number 15 of the 50 Things To Do Before You're 11 3/4 is

Play In The Snow

On Wednesday we awoke to some snow. Yet again it wasn't very much and despite some bigger, thicker flakes falling mid morning and slightly raising my hopes that maybe we would get some deeper snowfall, alas it stopped after an hour and we were left with a thin covering yet again. Therefore, not enough to build a snowman but enough for us to get outside and make some foot and hand prints.

We discovered that footprints make a track which lead to something special - in this case Burton! Jumping in snow is fun and snow can be scraped off things but is cold when it touches little fingers! Plus it makes the perfect canvas for making hand prints, even though sadly by the next day Burton's handy work *ahem* had melted away.

Thursday was a lovely sunny, if very cold, day so we headed back  into the garden on a natures treasure hunt. Using spades we dug up snow (well it was more like ice today) to see what lay underneath - we discovered that leaves, grass and tree roots were hidden beneath the white icy covering.

In the afternoon we went on a walk and ventured to the park but instead of heading to the playground we went over the old railway bridge and across the river. After some climbing (Burton cant stop climbing things at the moment) we walked across the bridge (Jenson slept in the buggy), which was drenched in warm sunshine which created some wonderful shadows casting different sized lines across the ground. We also saw some pigeons and we stopped to hear them cooing as some are living underneath the bridge. We also saw reflections on the river of the surrounding trees and blue sky.

It was lovely to feel the warm sun on our faces even if on the return home we had to face the cold wind!
