As a Mum to two little boys I am always finding mess on my floors. I feel like I am constantly wiping, hoovering and mopping my floors downstairs especially around the dining table and highchair areas!
*sighs*
Still, at least having wooden flooring in my living spaces downstairs cleaning them is relatively easy. However, my stairs, upstairs hallway and bedrooms are all carpeted and they have been through some tough times over the last three and a bit years.
Let me think, breast milk, baby sick, wee (children's!), poo (again children's), toddler sick, bottom cream, are to name a few of the stains my carpets have battled against since Burton was born. As much as I have cleaned them as best I can, some battle scars of stain invasion remain on my carpets especially in mine and the boys rooms!! Luckily we chose hardy carpets knowing we would soon have children and therefore they do withstand a lot of child related incidences!

If only I had been given some great stain removing tips I may have made a better job of eliminating those pasta bolognese sick stains!! Apparently, a good tip for eradicating vomit stains are to either :
mix 1 tbsp of ammonia with 1 cup of water (although not advised on wool or wool blended carpet)
or
mix chlorine bleach and water in a 1:5 ratio (but only on solution dyed carpets e.g. polypropylene)
Another annoying thing about hoovering carpet, is when I go to move pieces of furniture out so I can clean behind and underneath there is an indentation left behind on the floor!! Apparently, a good tip to remove these marks, is to place an ice cube in the dent and leave it overnight. The next morning, use a dry cloth or piece of kitchen towel to absorb the moisture. The ice cube will have raised the carpet fibres back up and by using a fork the remaining flattened fibres can be raised gently. (This technique should only be demonstrated on carpets which are suitable for water cleaning).
I think whatever your living situation, whether you have babies, young children or teenagers, pets or just adults (think red wine spillages!) in your home, maintaining your carpets can be hard work and could be made a whole lot easier with tips and a 'how to' guide, revealing how to ensure tough stains are kept at bay on your carpeted floors.
Anything which makes my cleaning chores easier is a big plus in my books!

I like the ice cube idea. Must get round to trying that.
