Following the success of the first Toddlers Seek 'n' Find: My Animals, which remains the most successful seek-and-find app in the iTunes store, its sequel has now been launched which is called My Little Town. What makes the Seek 'n' Find apps so unique and unusual is that all of the illustration are hand drawn - no computer animation is used here which makes the pages look like those from an actual story book. The aim of the app's creators is to breathe new life into the traditional story book layout but do it in an app.
in the morning
in the afternoon
and in the evening
The concept is simple - your toddler can touch the people, animals, vehicles, doors etc... and watch them move or make noises.
It is odd seeing hand drawn illustrations on the iPad but it also makes a lovely change and it does feel like you are looking at a hand crafted book rather than an app. There are so many things to watch and listen to just by exploring the images inside the pictures on the pages - some are quite amusing like the woman whose pancake gets stuck to the ceiling after she tries flipping it! the scenes just show everyday life and images which you and your toddler may be familiar with and together with some new ones.
Burton enjoyed discovering what the different characters, vehicles, animals etc... did when he touched them, and I his favourite was the helicopter and watching the sun change to rain and back again (from the in the morning page). I enjoyed watching him finding out what happened after he touched the illustrations, as the app is quite enchanting.
However, I do feel that this app is maybe a little too simplistic for my toddler. Although he enjoyed looking at it to begin with and went back to it for a few days after I downloaded it, this app hasn't held his interest for as long as some of the other apps he uses. Thats not to say I don't recommend the Toddler Seek 'n' Find: My Little Town app its just that I think it would have suited him better when he was younger. I think we have got him use to playing more advanced apps and therefore this one didn't entertain him for as long. Having say that, he may well return to it again.
It is a lovely looking seek and find app, and if your child is maybe aged 18 months - 2 years I think it is worth having as the illustrations are like those from a story book, and would hold their attention better.
The Toddler Seek 'n' Find: My Little Town app is priced at £1.49 which is great value for money because there is a lot to look at and discover, and the illustrations are brilliant!
I was asked to review this app (I paid for it myself) and my opinions are my own. I downloaded it because I felt it would be suitable for my toddler to use.
