Organic Monkey : A Review

I was recently asked to try some baby products from Organic Monkey, a brand new skincare product range using Fairtrade and organic ingredients as much as possible, which  will help protect, soothe and look after our little monkeys. Organic Monkey are also the FIRST baby skincare range to be awarded the Fairtrade certification, and every one of their products has also been certified organic by the Soil Association.

My youngest cheeky little monkey is 6 1/2 months old and is going through teething, having had two little toothy pegs pop up in the last week.

So when the lovely people from Organic Monkey offered to send me some Cheeky Monkey organic cheek rub for teething and some Bumfluff Nappy Balm , I jumped at the chance to get some help with the painful process that is teething.

Straight away I really loved the quirky names of the products within the range. Asides from the two items I have been sent to review, the other fab names include Rock The Cradle (organic cradle cap oil), Belly Better (organic tummy oil) and Hello Mellow (organic massage oil). All of the Organic Monkey range are presented in clean, simple glass bottles or jars with a silver screw lid and the product themselves are an array of  colours which look appealing and would certainly catch my eye in store.

So onto the two products I have been using.

The Cheeky Monkey Cheek Rub comes in just the right size bottle for popping in your baby changing bag, handbag  or even your pocket! With my previous (teething) baby I resorted to  using calpol and a well known teething gel for gums, which was hard to apply and I have to admit I feel unhygienic - I mean, it's not nice sticking your finger into your baby's mouth is it?

However, with the Cheeky Monkey cheek rub you simply apply the oil to your baby's cheeks which means you don't need to out anything inside your baby's mouth - yay! The cheek rub contains a blend of organic oils specially formulated to ease the discomfort of teething and the smell is divine!

Now I have to be honest, my cheeky little monkey was given calpol to help ease his teething pain, but I have used the cheek rub several times over the last couple of weeks aswell. While I cannot categorically say that the blend of oils helped him to calm down and lessen the teething pain, I would like to think that it helped. Plus, as I mentioned the fact that the oil is applied externally is a BIG bonus as far as I am concerned.

The Bumfluff Nappy Balm is a gorgeous butter cream which smells good enough to smother on my own skin let alone the delicate skin of my baby!  Again it is presented in a handy sized jar which is very mobile as it doesn't take up too much room in your bag.

I trialled the Bumfluff on my toddlers bottom last week, while he was still wearing his nappies (he has since started using a potty) as he often gets a sore bottom. The balm is easy to apply and isn't too greasy or as messy as other nappy rash creams I have used. His bottom appeared much better after a couple of days of frequently using the balm and it was so much cleaner to apply - no white or yellow cream staining the changing mat or carpet or  my fingers! Plus Burton liked unscrewing the lid, so he liked it very much!

I haven't had an opportunity to use it on Jenson's little bottom yet as he hasn't needed any nappy balm, but I will definitely be using it again and would recommend  it to other mums.

Being organic and Fairtrade products, the Organic Monkey baby skincare range is a little more expensive than the more well known leading baby products BUT you would expect to with the difference in ingredients that are used. The Cheeky Monkey sells for £7.50 for 30ml and the Bumfluff Nappy Balm costs £10.50.

With their witty names and minimalistic packaging; gorgeous natural ingredients and lovely fragrances, I think the Organic Monkey range is fab and great for my two cheeky little monkeys!

Organic Monkey products can be found in some selected stockists and for more information please visit the Organic Monkey website.

I was sent the Cheeky Monkey and Bumfluff products to be reviewed, and these opinions are entirely my own. I only review products on my children that I feel are appropriate and suitable.
