The Gallery - Jen & The Weedstalk

This week's Tara has given us BACK YARD as our Gallery theme.

My backyard is hideous - it is not something to be proud of. It is very small, does not get very much sun and is covered with uneven patio slabs and weeds. There is a battered, tatty and faded blue back gate and a shed which homes our washing machine and tumble dryer. Compared to the inside of our house, which was renovated a couple of years ago, the outside area is such a let down! It needs an over haul but hasn't been done yet.

I really wish we had a little garden, somewhere for Burton to play but alas we do not. One day soon we will move to a place with a garden which will be lovely, although not being green fingered I wouldn't want a massive garden!

Anyway, I digressed. So I am too ashamed off my backyard to take a photo of it to show what it actually looks like. Therefore, instead I am going to share with you this plant - well weed really - which must have shot up in the last few days because I hadn't noticed it at the weekend! It is huuuge and has such a thick stalk!

So here is my aptly named 'weedstalk' which our backyard has nurtured!! Taken from its front and back.

I wonder how tall it would get if I left it alone? Would I find a giant and a golden goose/egg at the top??!

For other, no doubt nicer, backyard photos check out The Gallery

  5. It reminds me of the ones at our house when we moved in, they grew to about my head house, and I spent YEARS pulling them out... You have made me smile this morning :)

  8. That is actually rather large! Hate to think how far down the roots go. Keep growing it, see how big it will go! I want updates.

  9. oh my gosh! what an ugly plant - but it does look like it's heading for the sky - Ah flip! wouldn't it be great if you found the giants gold? (is that what happens in the story?)

  13. I have one of those in my greenhouse which is about 5feet tall now. I'd pull it out if it wasn't so damn prickly.

  14. I think you should let it grow and put fairy lights on it at Christmas!

  15. If you are going to let it grow, don't let it go to seed. I left one in my front garden because I thought it looked 'interesting' and now I can't get rid of its offspring!

I hope you find an egg! At least your garden allows things to grow. You are a superb weed grower! x

  23. It is a Triffid methinks!
I was in your position not too long ago with a poor yard but know I have a lovely one and 1 acre to boot to look after.  Times do change for the better.

  24. You will get that garden.  Just send a message out to the universe that you need one.  I like the drama of your triffid though!
I have gone from no outside space at all to over 1 acre so it can happen

  25. I'd let it grow. How cool would the bean stalk be? x
