Home Security

As many of you will know by now, I recently moved house. Its a wonderful house and a really lovely home for me and my family and a place where I know we will enjoy living and we will make so many happy memories as the years go by.

However, this house is much bigger than our old abode, and it has many more windows, doors and gaps in the outer perimeter fencing. I have to be honest that as a woman at home alone four days a week with two young boys, I feel vulnerable. I guess living in a terraced house as we did before, I felt safe and protected by the houses either side of me and with there only being a back and front door I didn't worry about anyone breaking in and invading my home. Here, I feel differently and have been worrying about how someone could break in and I may not hear them, and all the doors are made from glass so could be smashed easily I fear.

Call it silly paranoia or just my maternal instincts and protective feelings for my children, but it is how I have been feeling for the last couple of weeks. This house is fairly secure, I am sure, it is kept locked and it is part of a cul de sac and not in the middle of nowhere. This is why I am so grateful for home security systems - giving parents and home alone women like myself peace of mind that their home and their most treasured possessions - in my case my two boys - are protected as best they can be. Afterall, I carefully nurtured them in my womb, brought them into the world and have given them as best a start in life as I can possibly do - I am not going to let their sanctuary, our home, be invaded by unwanted intruders.

As soon as I can pin him down one weekend, I will be getting my OH to install one of the many digital door locks as an added security measure. These ingenious keyless locks allow you to go out without a key and entry to your house is only accessible via a unique PIN number which only those that need to know will. 

Plus if you need to create a temporary code to grant access to a neighbour or family member, then you can and it can be deleted once you have no longer require it. As someone who is always struggling to find their keys on their person, in their handbag, buggy etc.. when they arrive home, I think one of these keyless locks is a great solution. Now I just have to hope my baby brain (Yes I still use as an excuse!) doesn't forget my PIN number!!
