I am very lucky in that both sets of my grandparents are still alive. I love my grandparents very much and I have VERY fond memories of them from my childhood, as both sets did so much with my brother and I when we were younger. As my parents had us so young, we had very young grandparents so I guess they had a lot more energy to do things with us which was great fun!
I have my own name for my grandparents which is 'Nanny and Na' (my brother did too, but since he became an adult he dropped our special names for the conventional Nan and Grandad!). This is because when I was born the decision was made for me to call each grandparent Nanny and Nana, but I had problems saying 'Nana' so I shortened it to 'Na' and it has stuck ever since. Then to differentiate between each set we call my Mum's parents 'Richie Nanny and Na' as my uncle is called Richard, and my Dad's parents called 'Kerry Nanny and Na' after my Auntie. Again, I still use this and continue to do so with my children.
It's a shame that when my parents made the decision to move to Devon in 1986, that we did not see as much of my Dad's parents, as they did not enjoy driving down here. Sadly, I only see them about once a year now, when I manage a trip up to Thatcham to see them. Richie Nanny and Na however, still make regular visits to stay at my Mums so I see them every couple of months. More importantly, they have seen so much of their great grandson growing up and have already seen Jenson twice. Whereas sadly, Kerry Nanny and Na have only seen Burton twice and are yet to meet Jenson :( and yes I do feel incredibly guilty, but it's is really hard making and finding the time to go up there.
So I am going to show a photo of each of my grandparents with Burton, as I don't have any of them with both their great grandchildren yet - something I intend to rectify very soon!
Here is Richie Nanny and Na with Burton which was taken in March 2010.
Here is Kerry Nanny and Na with Burton which was taken in November 2010.
I love both of these photos - both my Nannies and both my Na's look really happy and I will treasure these photos always.
