The Gallery - Mother's Love

This weeks Gallery theme set by Tara over at Sticky Fingers is MOTHER'S LOVE.

It seems hard to believe that 1 week ago tonight at 21.19pm I gave birth to my second son. As soon as I found out I was pregnant again I immediately felt a mixture of happiness and guilt: happy to be lucky enough to be having another child, a brother or sister for Burton; and yet guilty because I already had a little person who I love above anyone or anything else, and what would he make of another person coming into our family.

As daft as it sounds, I just could not imagine loving another person like I loved and indeed do love Burton. I know that it would be unconditional again and once I held that baby in my arms all my worries would disappear, but it just didn't feel possible that my love as a mother could be shared.

So last Wednesday when I saw and held Jenson for the first time, my love as his mother was there and it took me back to when I first held Burton 20 months earlier. A Mothers's Love is amazing in that way.

Jenson & I an hour after he as born

I would also like to share my Mothers Day present with you from Burton, which made me cry when I saw it because it made me think about how much my eldest seems so big and grown up now. It also made me think about how one day, as with Jenson, he will be an adult and my love will still be strong for them but our relationship will be so different. I am hopeful that my relationship with my adult sons will be as good as the ones I have with them as children, but I know I will love them just as much nonetheless.

  9. Congratulations, not just on being blessed with the beautiful Jenson, but for having TWO wonderful boys, who will enrich the rest of your life. I totally relate to what you said about worrying about loving another baby the way I love my daughter, and it's refreshing to know that all of those fears wash away.

  16. Congratulations on your new baby!
I hope you enjoy your growing sons as much as I've enjoyed watching my own boy grow up to the giddy heights of 6' at age 15. You will find so much to love in every age - make the most of it.

I agree, I could not begin to think how I could possible share the love, but my Grandma says you don't share the love, every child brings their own and I believe that to be true! x

  26. Having two grown up children and the twin toddlers I often make comparisons between them. Your love never changes adn the time you have for each one never changes, the way you interact does though. My two older children don't 'need' me as much anymore and it's always me who calls them!

I love Burtons hand prints too...the one I had from Jack at pre-school didn't exactly look like a hand!
