This week the lovely Hannah over at Metal Mummy has asked us to discuss what we think of the actor Leonardo Decaprio.
I think he is one of the finest young actors of his generation. I find it remarkable that for his age he has starred in so many brilliant films, alongside some of the greatest actors and with some of the best directors. I don't think there are many of his films I haven't liked, Romeo and Juliet, The Departed, Shutter Island, Inception, Can't Catch Me are to name a few of my favourite Decaprio movies.
However, for me the film which stands out for me, is the first one I really noticed him in and in which I think his acting for someone his age at that time is outstanding. The film is What's Eating Gilbert Grape
This 1993 film shows Decaprio play an autistic boy and I just think his portrayal is brilliant and so convincing.
Infact I think first time I watched the film, when I did not really know much about who this young actor was, I may have wondered if an actual autistic actor was playing the role of Arnie.
His part in this film won him a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination and it is not hard to see why.
At the age of only 36, Leonardo Decaprio still has so much time ahead of him to appear in yet more great films and good luck to him because this man can act.
II'm so glad someone added this film. It was the other one I was toying with! Such a great actor x
ReplyDeleteStill not seen this one, maybe I should give it a go.
ReplyDeleteThis is the definitive genius acting role for Di Caprio - I couldn't not choose it because you already had. My post could only concur xx
ReplyDeleteNot ever watched this one! Will have to check it out, have heard lots about it though!
ReplyDeleteSnap! I chose this too. A brilliant performance x
ReplyDeleteGenius piece of acting. Excellent film. x
ReplyDeletegreat choice, think I need to watch this all the way through!
ReplyDeleteHe acts SO well in this film - superb choice! x
ReplyDeleteI only found out a few years later that it was Leo in that film and I remember being really shocked. He was amazing! I love him. I know lots of people who hate him, hate the way his face sits :) I think they're bonkers! x
ReplyDeleteI kow a lot of people who don't like him either. Madness because he can really act.....he couldn't help being popular with the girlies (although I never fancied him myself!) x
