Movie Meme - Directors

This is the first time I have joined in with
Metal Mummy's Movie Meme and I don't know why I havent done so before, because I am a huge fan of films so it's the perfect linky for me to participate in. this week is week 3 and the theme is DIRECTORS.

For me the ultimate movie director is Martin Scorsese

It seems hard to believe that it's been 35 years since Scorsese unleashed the classic film Taxi Driver upon the world.

This movie contains such a radical world view, and it's ending is so brutal and with it's classic quotes and incredibly chilling lead performance by Robert De Niro, this unique film quickly became a classic. To this day, Taxi Driver still creates great movie discussion, imitation and references all across popular culture in all its forms.

He has made several films which I love and they contain some brilliant actors. The way Scorsese can make his actors turn themselves into such evil, manipulative and even grotesque characters is amazing. Take Robert De Niro for example in Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Cape Fear he underwent such physical changes to really turn himself into the character he was playing in these films.

More recently Leonardo De Capri has become synonymous with Scorsese films starring in the brilliant Aviator, The Departed and Shutter Island
However, my favourite Scorsese film is

It is such a magnificent movie! A classic, fast paced, gangster film, a great mix of violence and humour and yet it manages to keeps you on the edge of your seat and pulls you in to the seedy criminal underworld you are viewing. I have seen this film so many times and yet I never tire of it.

I am sure many of you have seen Goodfellas and if you haven't you really should. It is based on true events of the real life mobster turned FBI informer Henry Hill (Liotta). The film successfully manages to mix the alluring glamour and moral degradation of organised crime amongst the Italian-American Mafia.

The three main actors in Goodfellas are just brilliant: Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci. It is the performance of the latter of these actors who blows everyone else in the film out of the water, his performance is unforgettable and just so psychotic it's amazing. He is just so nasty and vicious it's just horrific to watch at times, and yet so compelling that you have to keep watching the events in the film unfold.
