Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 DVD - Review

After 10 years (has it really been that long?) of waiting, the final installment of the Harry Potter adventures Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is released on DVD to buy, just in time for Christmas too!

I am a big fan of the Harry Potter books and have enjoyed watching the characters and words brought to life on the big screen. As the story has progressed it has become darker and event little scary at times (those Dementors are quite eerie), and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is no exception. It certainly isn't 'light' hearted and is full of doom and gloom for the majority of the film, but then having read the book I was prepared for this. Plus Deathly Hallows pt 1 sets the way for what the finale will be like anyway! Mind you despite each of the stories becoming darker over time, this last film does portray glimpses of light so strikes up a better balance between the two conflicting power struggles.

However, the bleakness of the narrative aside, this film is brilliant and a reward to all us fans who have waited a decade to witness the end of the Harry Potter story. The special FX are amazing and at times breath taking and I really felt myself caught up with all the action! I have always enjoyed watching the books visually on the big screen - they have been superbly adapted with a brilliant cast and FX. Whilst watching the plot unfold in this final installment, I feel I have been on an emotional roller coaster and this has been helped by the wonderful actors and actresses that bring the colourful characters alive. Helena Bonham -Carter certainly knows how to portray a mad woman, and the fantastic Alan Rickman as the forlorn Professor Snape, are two cast members who stand out in particular this time round (although have enjoyed the latter's performances throughout the entire series). I did actually find myself shedding a little tear at Professor Snape 's heart breaking scene where we discover where his true allegiances lay afterall. I felt huge relief once Harry's showdown with Voldermort was over - I could relax a little afterwards! Aww and 'that' kiss shared by Ron and Hermione was sweet and as a fan I was happy that they at last got their embrace!

All in all this is an awesome film and a great and exciting climax to the Harry Potter story. It is on the edge of your seat stuff at times, not just with the action scenes but with the emotional moments too! As a fan I feel it was a worthy translation of the book and I wasn't disappointed by the film.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is available to buy now from all good DVD outlets.

I was sent a copy of the film on DVD for the purpose of this review. All comments made are my own.
