It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.......... Everywhere I go!
Sorry, I couldn't resist including that line as it has been on my mind all day from the moment I woke up on the 1st December. In fact I have been 'singing' it a lot to my boys and myself since then, because quite frankly I am excited that the countdown to Christmas has started :)
Anyway, it got me thinking about Christmas songs and how much I love listening to them and singing along. In fact December is the only month when I will turn on one of the music channels on my free view box and watch the videos to all the hits from Christmas past, Christmas present and planet cheese! I love them - they just fill me with Christmas spirit and merriment, and they cheer me up.
So here are my Top 5 favourite Christmas songs in no particular order
Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas
As soon as I hear the tinkle tinkle sound at the start, I feel my voice limbering up to join in with the vocals. It's such a happy song and I always turn the radio up when it is played. LOVE it
The Pogues - Fairy Tale Of New York
This song is just a great Christmas tune and my contains one of my favourite lines from a festive song, that being
"You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last"
Classic
Wham! - Last Christmas
Awww back in the day I LOVED Wham! And I was 'in love' with George Micheal. In fact I wasted a lot of unrequited love on that man (wasted, all wasted when he turned out to be gay!). But back when he stuffed shuttlecocks down his shorts and was all dreamy I was his biggest fan. I used to listen to this song and watch the video and imagine I was his lost love ha ha!! So this song hold special memories for me lol
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
Aww love a bit of Shaky! This songs reminds me of a Christmas play I wrote while at secondary school where we performed a dance routine to it in the final scene. it's got it all going on, jingle heels, snow and Father Christmas in the video and some Christmassy knitted jumpers!!
Wizard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day
Except I am not sure that I really do, or indeed could cope with it if it were true! But it is a great song to sing along to and when you are a child the words are perfect!
What are yours? Come on share the cheesy Christmas song love

I share two of yours and would include Wizard if it was a top ten and not a top five. Brilliant and as you say half of me sort of wishes it could be
ReplyDeleteFabulous festive tunes! I love a bit of Wham! I am so in the mood for a party with this week's Listography x
ReplyDeleteLast Christmas is such a good one, I was so in love with Andrew when that song came out!
ReplyDeleteFab choices, your first 3 made my post as well, I am ashamed I forgot about old Shakey though!
ReplyDeleteNot big on Mariah, but Fairy Tale of New York is one of my favouritest!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHaha I hate to say it but two of those are my WORST Christmas songs ever! But I do like the other three :) xx
ReplyDeleteTotally love Fairytale of New York and Ben absolutely hates it. Well, I'll convince Amy to join in with me. Just got to come up with a child-friendly alternative to our favourite part, haha x
ReplyDeletePogues is also on my list. Not a big fan of Mariah but I do love that song! And Wizard! How did I forget about them?! Thanks for sharing!! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat choices. Did you know Mariah has released it as a duet on Justin Bieber's album.
ReplyDeleteLove them all except Shakin Stevens - I just couldn't get past the sideburns. Everyone loves the Pogues though, surely? Check out our Last Christmas (not Wham)
