Favourite Festive Tunes

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.......... Everywhere I go!

Sorry, I couldn't resist including that line as it has been on my mind all day from the moment I woke up on the 1st December. In fact I have been 'singing' it a lot to my boys and myself since then, because quite frankly I am excited that the countdown to Christmas has started :)

Anyway, it got me thinking about Christmas songs and how much I love listening to them and singing along. In fact December is the only month when I will turn on one of the music channels on my free view box and watch the videos to all the hits from Christmas past, Christmas present and planet cheese! I love them - they just fill me with Christmas spirit and merriment, and they cheer me up.

So here are my Top 5 favourite Christmas songs in no particular order

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas
As soon as I hear the tinkle tinkle sound at the start, I feel my voice limbering up to join in with the vocals. It's such a happy song and I always turn the radio up when it is played. LOVE it

The Pogues - Fairy Tale Of New York
This song is just a great Christmas tune and my contains one of my favourite lines from a festive song, that being
"You scumbag, you maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God it's our last"
Classic

Wham! - Last Christmas
Awww back in the day I LOVED Wham! And I was 'in love' with George Micheal. In fact I wasted a lot of unrequited love on that man (wasted, all wasted when he turned out to be gay!). But back when he stuffed shuttlecocks down his shorts and was all dreamy I was his biggest fan. I used to listen to this song and watch the video and imagine I was his lost love ha ha!! So this song hold special memories for me lol

Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone
Aww love a bit of Shaky! This songs reminds me of a Christmas play I wrote while at secondary school where we performed a dance routine to it in the final scene. it's got it all going on, jingle heels, snow and Father Christmas in the video and some Christmassy knitted jumpers!!

Wizard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day
Except I am not sure that I really do, or indeed could cope with it if it were true! But it is a great song to sing along to and when you are a child the words are perfect!

What are yours? Come on share the cheesy Christmas song love

  1. I share two of yours and would include Wizard if it was a top ten and not a top five.  Brilliant and as you say half of me sort of wishes it could be

  7. Totally love Fairytale of New York and Ben absolutely hates it. Well, I'll convince Amy to join in with me. Just got to come up with a child-friendly alternative to our favourite part, haha x
