My offering is a recipe for Gingerbread Men (or people if that is more PC!) which is something the whole famly can get involved with. I made some this morning with Burton, although ours resemble anything but 'men' shapes! Plus he just wanted to bang the cutter on the worktop really, but he did get stuck in sort of anyway!
175g plain flour
2tsp grond ginger
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
55g of butter or margarine
85g soft brown sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
1 egg, beaten
Things to decorate your gingerbread people eg. Smarties, raisins, choc chips, jelly orange & lemon cake decorations
Preheat the oen to 190oC/170oC fan/gas mark 5/ 375oF
Sift the flour, ginger and bicarb into a lare mixing bowl
Add the butter or marg and rub into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs and then mix in the sugar
Warm the syrup in a small saucepan on a low heat until runny, then add to the breadcrumb mixture along with the beaten egg.
Mix to form a soft dough (note- if dough too sticky then add more flour)
Then knead lightly until smooth
Roll, or in my case press down the mixture with your hands, on a lightly floured surface
and then using a cutter, make your gingerbread people
Place on a lightly greased baking sheet and cook for about 10 minutes, or until crisp and golden (or less time if you prefer them more soft). Then allow to cool
Use your decorations to make eyes, smiles and buttons.
We didnt decorate ours because they are mainly for Burton and he likes them plain. As you can see ours look very original :)
Still they tasted ok!
And Daddy tried one too
